DRU GILLAN, B.A., LLB

Dru GillanDru is the principal solicitor.

Dru has strong expertise and experience with the top-end of the liquor, hospitality and retail industry in New South Wales.

Dru spent the previous fifteen (15) years advising businesses in the hospitality industry. He is a solicitor with expertise in the area of liquor licensing. He has strong beackground in employment law and industrial relations.

Dru understands the need for flexible, strategic, timely and practical advice. He builds strong relationships with clients and knows the value of a good understanding of their business and industry.

CHARLES SHIELDS, LLB (UNSW)

Charles is a consultant to Service Industry Legal Services in the areas of liquor licensing and gaming.

Charles has a wealth of experience and expertise in liquor licensing and gamimg, as well as management training and development.  His technical, expert advice is an asset to the clients of Service Industry Legal Services.

He has held positions as adviser to the NSW Government on gaming and liquor issues; was involved in the drafting of legislation and advising on policy; and served as the Chief of Staff to the NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing.  He was the founding director of the Casino Control Division for the NSW Treasury; a consultant to the Commonwealth Law Reform Commission with reference to privacy; and was employed in a legal compliance capacity for Seagulls Rugby League Football Club.

Most recently he was the legal adviser on legislation, regulation and policies for the Australian Hotels Association (NSW).

As a lawyer and lecturer, Charles has conferred with many of the largest gaming and hospitality organisations in Australia. He holds a current Practicing Certificate and is well versed in the dual roles of legal counsel and compliance adviser.

ANGELA CHAN, B.A., Dip. Law (BAB – Syd), MMIA, RMA:  9256542

Angela is consultant to Service Industry Legal Services in the area of immigration law.

Angela completed her Diploma in Law (Barrister’s Admission Board) from the University of Sydney and is a non-practising barrister.  She was the first Australian born Chinese woman to be admitted to the Bar in 1990.

Angela is a Foundation Member of the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) and past NSW President. She also sat on the National Executive of the MIA and is currently on the NSW Executive Committee.  She was appointed as a member of the first Federal Government’s Migration Agent’s Registration Board and continued serving on the Board until the industry became self-regulated.

Angela has been involved in providing immigration advice to companies and individuals since 1988.  She was one of the first people to be registered under the licensing programme in 1992 and prior to that was an approved business migration agent of the Department of Immigration & Ethnic Affairs.

Angela’s work and experience covers all areas of immigration law including appeals and compliance issues.  She has also been involved in extensive consultations with all levels of government and bureaucracy in trying to provide the best service to her clients.
